How to Repair a MacBook that Overheats
A MacBook laptop that overheats is often due to the internal fan's inability to cool down the logic board, which becomes warm when the computer continues to run at a high speed in order to maintain several applications.
The laptop can also work improperly if a build-up of dust collects in the laptop's air vents, which blocks the circulation of air from the internal fan. Over time, the laptop's shell can become extremely warm and the computer itself will run slower than usual.
1: Save all currently open documents, and exit out of all applications. Press the Power button on your MacBook, and select the "Shut Down" button on the pop-up menu.
2: Remove the magnetic power cable from your MacBook laptop, and hold the spray nozzle at least 10 inches away from the MacBook's air vents, located near the hinge on the bottom of the laptop.
3: Spray pressurized air in a sweeping motion over the air vents to push any dust or debris out of the laptop. Wipe any remaining dust around the air vents with a clean, lint-free cloth.
Close Applications
4: Click "Go" at the top of your MacBook's screen, and click "Utilities" on the sub-menu. Double-click the "Activity Monitor" button to run the Activity Monitor application.
5: Click the "CPU" tab at the bottom of the Activity Monitor window to view your laptop's currently running applications, and click the "CPU" column near the top of the window to arrange your applications by those that use the most amount of your computer's resources.
6: Select the application you are currently not using, and click the "Quit Process" button at the top of the screen. The Quit Process button is the image of a red "Stop" sign.
